A place of business where people can come and express their needs, have high expectations for success, and walk away with an optimistic and satisfied outlook on their taxes and accounting.
Being a smaller business located in McHenry County, we reach out to other small businesses throughout the area. Networking and giving back to the community is an important aspect to our company. Mary Miller, CPA, CVA, founded the company in August of 2000. She graduated from Columbia College with a major in accounting/business. She is an active member of The Illinois CPA Society, AICPA, and The National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
After owning her own accounting business from 1990 until May 1994, she merged into a local public accounting firm. She is the treasurer of the Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers Rotary Club, past treasurer of The Johnsburg White Lightning Soccer Club, and past board member of the Johnsburg Softball League. In April of 2003 she was elected to the McHenry County College Board, as a trustee, and is currently serving a six year term. She also has served as the treasurer of The McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce.
John has a Masters degree in Taxation from DePaul University and has been a CPA since 1977 (the year he graduated from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin). He has worked in local public accounting his entire career.
He has been a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Illinois CPA Society since May of 1978. He served for eleven years as a board member of Family Services & Community Mental Health Center in McHenry, is a current member and past treasurer of the McHenry Chamber of Commerce, and served as a past president and treasurer of The Rotary Club of McHenry.
As an Enrolled Agent, Jamie Seda is a federally authorized tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation; she is empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before all levels of the Internal Revenue Service for audits, collections, and appeals. Her knowledge with tax laws give her the ability to represent those being audited by the IRS.
Jamie has an Associate in Applied Science of Accounting degree from McHenry County College. She is currently enrolled at Columbia College of Missouri pursuing an Accounting Degree. She is a Certified Quickbooks’ ProAdvisor.
Erica Talley is a growing accountant in our office. She began working with us as our office administrator and has since been promoted to an accountant and continues to gain experience and grow her career. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting and is attending Grand Canyon University Online to complete her Master’s in Accounting and plans to sit for the CPA Exam. She is a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
She is a QuickBooks Pro Advisor and assists in purchasing, implementation, and clean-up in the QuickBooks Program. Her focus is primarily on business clients performing tasks such as business start-up consultations, payroll tax, sales tax, bookkeeping, tax planning and income tax returns. She is growing her individual 1040 client list as she gains tax experience, and prepares Not For Profit Organizations annual reports and income tax returns. She manages our social sites and is our primary marketing specialist.
Rachel Block is our accounts payable and accounts receivable clerk here at Miller Verchota. She also assists with bookkeeping, income tax, and payroll taxes. Rachel has a wide range of accounting skills from her past employment opportunities. She began her accounting career as a tax intern at a CPA firm. She then went on to become an accounting clerk handling tax and benefit payments for an HR company, and a staff accountant for a large investment corporation handling bookkeeping. Her most recent position was a project accountant for a fire protection company handling the accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Rachel has her Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Roosevelt University. She is currently working towards her Masters of Science in Accounting from Roosevelt and plans to sit for the CPA exam upon graduation.
Jared Talley is our newest accountant and is off to a great start. He is currently working towards his Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. His primary focus is on business clients, performing tasks such as bookkeeping, payroll, payroll tax, sales tax, and income tax. He assists with audits and business valuation research. He is a QuickBooks Pro Advisor and one of our marketing specialists.
Kim O’Connor was hired as the administrative assistant. She grew up in Palatine, went to Palatine High School and Harper College. She worked in a dental office at the front desk and assisted the hygienists for many years. After having 2 kids, she worked at Aspen Homebuilders as an account assistant for 5 years. She then went on to run the front desk at Moffett Physical Therapy in Lake in the Hills for 5 years. She is very excited to start a new career with Miller Verchota, Inc!
