Miller Verchota was founded by Mary Miller and John Verchota in 2000. With prior accounting experience, both Mary and John are dedicated to creating a professional, welcoming accounting firm. Offering locations in Illinois and Colorado, Miller Verchota is a place of business where people can come and express their needs, have high expectations for success, and walk away with an optimistic and satisfied outlook on their taxes and accounting.
Being a smaller business, we reach out to other small businesses throughout Northern Illinois and El Paso County, Colorado. Networking and giving back to the community is an important aspect to our company. Achieving long term relationships and maintaining a respectful, high quality reputation is very important to us.
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is a nationwide organization that provides professional members and an array of information to assist in the knowledge and standards of GAAP. There are requirements for membership signup and renewal. Miller Verchota has been a member of the AICPA for over 35 years.
The Illinois CPA Society ICPAS is a statewide, professional membership organization dedicated to enhancing the value of the CPA profession. Founded in 1903, ICPAS is the fifth largest state CPA society in the nation. ICPAS represents Illinois CPAs in public accounting and consulting, corporate accounting and finance, government and not-for-profit organizations as well as three affiliate member groups: students, educators and related finance professionals.
Miller Verchota is currently a member of the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce and has been a member for the past 11 years. The Crystal Lake Chamber provides us with the opportunity to network with other local business, marketing, and a place to look for other local vendors.

Mary Miller, CPA, CVA, founded the company in August of 2000. She graduated from Columbia College with a major in accounting/business. She is an active member of The Illinois CPA Society, AICPA, and The National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
After owning her own accounting business from 1990 until May 1994, she merged with a local public accounting firm. In August 2000, she and her partner, John Verchota, formed Miller Verchota, Inc., and have continued growing their business as they enter into their twenty-second year of business this August. Mary is very active in the Community. She is a past president of the Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers and a past treasurer of the Rotary International District 6440 Treasurer. Mary earned a Trustee Emeritus title after serving two terms as a Board Trustee of McHenry County College. She is a past treasurer and board member of the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce and is past treasurer and board member of the Crystal Lake Chamber. Mary currently serves on the Finance Committee of Resurrection Church of Woodstock. Her philosophy has been to give back to the community in which her business thrives and also where she lives.

John has a Masters degree in Taxation from DePaul University and has been a CPA since 1977 (the year he graduated from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin). He has worked in local public accounting his entire career.
John has been a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Illinois CPA Society since May of 1978. He served for eleven years as a board member of Family Services & Community Mental Health Center in McHenry, is a current member and past treasurer of the McHenry Chamber of Commerce, and served as a past president and treasurer of The Rotary Club of McHenry. John currently serves on the Executive Committee for the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.
Jeff is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and has been working with Miller Verchota since 2004. He specializes in financial statement preparation, including compilations and reviews and tax returns for businesses. He is experienced in multi-state tax returns. Jeff received his bachelor’s degree from Columbia College. He serves on the Board as the Treasurer for Options and Advocacy, Crystal Lake.
Emily Fornwall is a licensed Certified Public Accountant. She received her bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and she received her master’s degree in business administration from Webster University. Prior to joining Miller Verchota, Inc., Emily worked in the credit union industry for thirteen years. Emily heads up our Audit Department and specializes in accounting and auditing of not-for-profit entities. Emily prepares not-for-profit organizations’ annual reports and informational filings. She is a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society.
Matthew Barber is an accountant who excels at auditing various companies that engage in many different types on industries. Matthew believes that, as an auditor, maintaining a fiduciary responsibility to clients can build a lasting relationship while delivering professional work.
Matthew has been working on audits for over four years including private companies, not-for-profit, employee benefit plans (401k), and internal audits. Currently they’re working on broadening their skills in bookkeeping and tax work.
Matthew holds a CPA license in the state of Illinois and has taken several accounting courses through The AICPA. They hold a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College of Missouri where they majored in accounting.
When they’re not working with clients, Matthew can be found cheering on Chicago sports, playing with his black lab, “Tiki,” or taking ballroom dance lessons.
Katherine is an Enrolled Agent and joined Miller Verchota in June 2023. She has been assisting individuals and small businesses in tax preparation, planning, and resolution since 2002. She received her bachelor’s degree from Lewis University and a master's degree in Taxation from Northern Illinois University.

Anthony received his master’s degree in Accountancy from Loyola University of Chicago and is a registered Certified Public Accountant. He has 10 years of experience in financial accounting, operational analyses, and implementing accounting systems. Beyond work, he enjoys quality family time.
Nicole began working with Miller Verchota in February 2022. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2015. Prior to joining Miller Verchota, Nicole worked in both public and private accounting, focusing on accounting services and tax preparation for small business and individuals. She is a Certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor and is currently working toward her CPA certification.
Brittney joined Miller Verchota in June 2022 as an accountant. She earned her bachelor's degree in 2022 from Southern Illinois University and majored in accounting. She is currently working toward her CPA certification.
Terri Joined Miller Verchota in August 2018 as a part-time Bookkeeper/Accountant. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1997 from Eastern Illinois University with a major in Accounting. She has over 15 years of accounting experience, primarily in large corporations. She is currently the Treasurer of the Prairie Ridge High School Booster Club. She resides in Prairie Grove and loves working in the community where she lives.
Erica Talley is a licensed Enrolled Agent in Colorado Springs. She has over 10 years of experience in the field of accounting and tax with internal accounting, budgeting, and tax planning expertise. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting from Columbia College and is currently working toward her CPA certification.
Juanita joined Miller Verchota in November of 2017 as an Administrative Assistant. She assists the team with assembling tax returns and payroll for the accounts, scanning and filing inner-office documentation, gathering mail for outbound delivery, and sorting mail for inbound mail delivery to the accounts. Juanita also helps the team with various day-to-day office activities.
Kahlee joined Miller Verchota in January of 2023 as an Administrative Assistant. She manages the day-to-day office activities, including answering the phones, making appointments for the accountants, assembling tax returns, and doing her best to ensure client satisfaction.
